The community-driven OptiScaler project has successfully modified AMD FSR 4.1.2 to function on Intel Arc graphics cards. This development allows users to utilize Intel's dedicated Xe Math Extensions (XMX) cores for upscaling, moving beyond the previous reliance on the DP4a fallback path that typically yielded inferior performance results.
The modification specifically targets the FSR 4.1.2 Lite version. By leveraging XMX hardware, the implementation aims to bridge the gap between vendor-specific upscaling technologies, ensuring that gamers are not restricted by the native feature sets provided by their specific GPU hardware.
Testing conducted by Reddit user DarkerThanLpDark on an Arc B580 GPU within the game "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" demonstrated promising results. The modded FSR 4.1.2 Lite achieved an upscaling time of 0.59 ms, which is nearly identical to the 0.58 ms recorded by the game's native XeSS implementation.
This performance level represents a significant improvement over the standard DP4a-based FSR implementation on Arc hardware. The project continues to focus on expanding cross-brand compatibility for upscaling and frame-generation technologies, as reported by sources including Wccftech and VideoCardz.
