Helen Chiang, the inaugural chief operating officer for Xbox, has exited Microsoft after serving in the position for only three months. Her departure was confirmed through an internal memo distributed on 23rd October.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the news, expressing gratitude for Chiang's 21-year tenure at the company, which included a previous role as head of Minecraft. Sharma did not disclose specific reasons for the resignation.
The COO role was established by Sharma in July as a component of a major organizational reset intended to streamline operations and decision-making. This restructuring effort previously involved 3,200 layoffs and the departure of several studios.
Future leadership plans for the COO position remain unfinalized, with expectations that current executives will absorb Chiang's former responsibilities. Meanwhile, the company continues to navigate the status of various studios affected by the broader restructuring process.
