Following reports that EA closed BioWare and halted the future of the Mass Effect franchise, fans have mobilized to protest the decision. A campaign titled #SaveMassEffect, initiated by Joe Smith on Change.org, has officially surpassed 100,000 signatures as of October 23, 2026.
The petition proposes two specific paths for EA to consider. First, the organizers request that the company commit to continuing the development of Mass Effect with appropriate resources and time. Alternatively, they suggest that EA explore licensing the intellectual property to another qualified studio if the publisher no longer intends to develop the series internally.
Joe Smith emphasized that the movement is not intended to attack EA or BioWare employees, but rather to advocate for the franchise's future. However, industry analyst Joost Van Dreunen expressed skepticism regarding the likelihood of EA licensing the property, noting that the massive scale and high production costs of such a franchise make a transfer to another studio difficult.
The campaign organizers are currently focusing on expanding outreach and establishing professional communication with EA ahead of N7 Day on November 7. While the founder acknowledges that there is no guarantee EA will alter its plans, the movement aims to ensure the community's voice remains impossible to overlook.
