Square Enix has announced that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven has surpassed one million units sold. This achievement marks the first time a title in the series has reached this sales milestone in 29 years, following the success of the PlayStation-era game Romancing SaGa: Frontier.
The remake was led by producer Shinichi Tatsuke, who previously worked on the Trials of Mana remake. By implementing modern gameplay modifications despite limited resources, the development team successfully revitalized the title, earning consistent praise from the player base.
Series general producer Akitazu Kawazu celebrated the accomplishment by gifting a 30-year-old bottle of champagne to Tatsuke. Kawazu noted that the significance of reaching one million sales has shifted drastically over the decades, as the market has expanded from a few hundred console releases annually to a landscape where a similar volume of games may launch daily.
Tatsuke attributed the success to positive word-of-mouth from players, stating that reaching this milestone was unexpected at the project's inception. Looking ahead, the team is currently developing a remake titled Romancing SaGa 3: Minsuto Saga, which is scheduled for release on February 17, 2027.
