The animated film Made in Abyss: The Mysterious Awakening premiered in Japan on October 23. Following its release, officials confirmed that a second theatrical installment is currently in production to continue the story.
The narrative follows the events of The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, where Riko and her companions venture into the sixth layer, the Capital of the Unreturned. This area features a village of hollows with unique values and their princess, Faputa.
After Faputa fulfills her wish, the village is liberated and subsequently collapses. Riko invites Faputa to join their journey toward the seventh layer. At the base of the sixth layer, the group encounters the Curse Fleet led by Srajo, whose key visual has been unveiled.
For audiences in Taiwan, the film Made in Abyss: The Mysterious Awakening is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 20, 2026.
