Developer Wube Software has released the stable version 2.1 update for the simulation game Factorio on October 23. This marks the final major content update for the title, as the team shifts focus toward new projects. While active development concludes, the studio confirmed that future support will be limited to bug fixes.
The 2.1 update focuses on refining existing mechanics rather than adding new content. Key improvements include the ability to flip several facilities, such as oil pumps, burner mining drills, and inserters, allowing for more flexible production line layouts. Additionally, circuit network functionality has been expanded, enabling different colored wires for inputs and outputs.
Adjustments were also made to the Space Age DLC, specifically enhancing the usability of space platforms. Rockets can now transport multiple item types in a single launch, and the impact of platform width on acceleration has been rebalanced. Furthermore, new unloading bays allow inserters to extract items directly from landing pads, and the Quality feature is now available as a separate mod.
Factorio is currently available on PC via Steam, GOG.com, and the official website, as well as on Nintendo Switch. Although version 2.0 save files remain compatible with the latest update, the developer warns that existing factory designs may cease to function correctly due to these specific mechanical changes.
