On October 23, Mexican developer Novemtails and publisher Assemble Entertainment released the survival simulation game Under Canopies into Steam Early Access. The title emphasizes a peaceful experience, focusing on building and living in harmony with nature rather than combat or hunting.
Players explore diverse environments like forests, mountains, and meadows to gather resources for constructing cabins and crafting furniture. Survival mechanics require managing hunger, thirst, stamina, and body temperature. Additionally, players can cultivate crops, cook over 30 dishes, and raise livestock such as sheep and chickens to obtain materials.
A core gameplay element involves photographing wildlife to fill a digital album. Players can also build trust with animals through a dedicated interaction system. According to Assemble Entertainment, the game aims to provide a relaxing and immersive experience, with plans to refine the project further before its full release in 2027.
The game is currently available on Steam. A 25% discount is offered until November 6. Early feedback from the Steam Next Fest community praised the peaceful atmosphere and photography mechanics, leading to improvements in tutorials, inventory management, and controls within the current version.
