Developer FancyRancy has unveiled 18 Summers, a first-person lawn mowing simulation for PC via Steam. The game centers on a father tending to his backyard over 18 years, with the narrative unfolding across seven distinct summers. Each time the player completes a mowing session, three years pass, reflecting the aging of the protagonist's son.

The gameplay focuses on observing the passage of time through environmental changes rather than the act of mowing itself. As the son grows from a toddler to a young adult capable of driving, the backyard evolves. Playmats and water tables are replaced by sandboxes, tire swings, and eventually fire pits or golf clubs. Players can also discover dozens of collectible items like pacifiers or old toys, which are recorded in a scrapbook.

The project has gained significant attention on Reddit, with users expressing emotional reactions to the trailer. While some players worry the theme of growing up might be melancholic, FancyRancy stated the game prioritizes nostalgia. The developer, a father of three, aims to leave players feeling encouraged to embrace their own families rather than feeling devastated.

The concept originated from the developer's real-life experience of moving his children's toys while mowing his own lawn. Currently, the release date for 18 Summers remains unannounced, though interested players can add the title to their Steam wishlists.
