Arkane Lyon, the French developer known for Dishonored and DEATHLOOP, faces a potential closure on 13 November. According to a report by Le Monde published on 23 October, this deadline marks the end of a legally mandated search for a buyer.
The search process began after Microsoft informed the studio of its divestment decision on 16 July. This procedure is required by France's 2014 Florange Law, which compels large companies to seek a buyer for at least three months before closing a site.
Union representatives report that negotiations regarding redundancy plans are proceeding poorly. While the union advocates for the re-employment of the 217 staff members at other Xbox studios, they have not ruled out legal action. Internal documents suggest that if closure proceeds, the studio's activities would conclude between the end of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.
Microsoft stated it is actively seeking a partner to support the studio's future development and project commercialization. The company maintains that it is keeping the works council and employees informed throughout the ongoing French consultation process.
