Mugen Gaming has officially launched the first English translation of Sword World on BackerKit. Originally created by Group SNE in 1989, this iconic Japanese tabletop role-playing game has influenced the genre for over 35 years, selling more than 10 million copies across various media.
The crowdfunding campaign achieved significant success, reaching 100 times its funding goal within the first day. Co-owners Shawn Davidson and Ai Namima-Davidson expressed gratitude for the community support, emphasizing their commitment to delivering an authentic experience that honors the legacy of the original Japanese version.
The campaign offers three core books: a Core Rulebook for character creation, a Gamemaster's Guide, and a Monster Manual featuring over 300 creatures. Additional items include card packs, player accessories, and a starter set titled Labyrinth that Catches the Stars. All illustrations are created by human artists, including work directed by Shunsuke Nakashige, with no AI usage.
Built on a 2d6 system, the game emphasizes teamwork and accessible storytelling. Group SNE President Hitoshi Yasuda noted that if the campaign succeeds, the team hopes to bring further supplements and scenarios to the English-speaking audience. Interested backers can participate via the BackerKit page or join the official Discord community.
