Audio-Technica has officially unveiled the ATH-AWX7000, a new pair of closed-back dynamic headphones. The manufacturer describes these as their finest headphones to date, highlighting a combination of high-end audio performance and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
The device features housings made from Kiso cypress, finished with Echizen lacquer that darkens over time. The frame utilizes lightweight magnesium with aluminum sliders, while the headband and earpads are constructed from deerskin to improve comfort and isolation. The aesthetic incorporates kachi-iro, a deep navy color.
Internally, the headphones utilize a 58 mm Hybrid Matrix Diaphragm created through the HXDT molding process. This composite of polymer film and a metal dome is designed to maintain its shape under high pressure, resulting in precise pistonic motion. This technology aims to deliver improved bass power, resolution, and dynamic impact compared to previous closed-back models.
The ATH-AWX7000 is manufactured in Tokyo and includes two detachable cables with A2DC connectors: a balanced 8-foot 2-inch cable and a 9-foot 8-inch unbalanced cable. The product is currently available for a suggested retail price of $3,799.
