Key information

Eiji Aonuma, the producer behind The Legend of Zelda series, has officially received the Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. The ceremony took place at the Ministry of Culture in Paris, as reported by Chloé Woitier, deputy editor for media and tech at Le Figaro.

During his acceptance speech, Aonuma addressed his wife in French, thanking her for her support and expressing a desire to continue their journey together. This recognition follows a 2023 report regarding his nomination for the honor, which Nintendo acknowledged at the time as a significant achievement for their employee.

The Order of Arts and Letters, established in 1957, features three ranks including Chevalier. Aonuma is the second Nintendo developer to receive this distinction, following Shigeru Miyamoto, who was honored in 2006 for his work on the Mario series.

Aonuma joined Nintendo in 1988 and has contributed to the Zelda franchise since 1998's Ocarina of Time. Additionally, a remake of Ocarina of Time is scheduled for release on November 5 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
