According to a report from Puck, Xbox attempted to secure an agreement with Netflix regarding the exclusive streaming rights for its most popular characters. The proposal involved a seven-year term, but the parties failed to reach a consensus on the financial valuation.
While Netflix reportedly proposed a five hundred million dollar price tag for the seven-year contract, Xbox countered with a demand for eight hundred million dollars. This discrepancy in valuation ultimately caused the negotiations for the comprehensive package to collapse.
Despite the breakdown of these specific talks, Xbox stated that Netflix remains a significant partner. The company highlighted that they are currently moving forward with collaborative projects, including animated series based on Diablo and Minecraft.
Moving forward, Xbox is reportedly shifting its strategy toward smaller, individual agreements rather than pursuing large-scale, all-encompassing IP bundles. Netflix declined to provide a comment regarding the failed negotiations.
