Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince warns that the internet faces a period of heightened security instability. In an interview with Reuters, Prince stated that users should prepare for a couple of years where it feels like the sky is falling on a weekly basis due to the rapid discovery of software vulnerabilities.

This surge in security threats is driven by the use of Large Language Models, which accelerate the identification of exploitable weaknesses in critical internet infrastructure. Previously, the pace of discovery was constrained by the limited number of human experts available to analyze code, but LLMs have fundamentally altered the economics of finding and weaponizing these flaws.

Wiz Research, which utilized LLM tools to identify recent PHP vulnerabilities, noted that these models allow for the development and adaptation of exploits in mere hours. By reducing the required time and expertise, these tools lower the barrier to entry for attackers, potentially rendering traditional complexity-based security measures less effective.

Despite the immediate challenges, Prince suggests that this cycle will eventually result in more secure software as identified vulnerabilities are systematically patched. In the interim, he advises users to remain vigilant by keeping browsers and applications updated to mitigate risks during this volatile period.
