Following the poor launch of the Total War: Shogun 2 remaster, Sega removed the title from sale. Roger Collum, vice president of Total War at Creative Assembly, stated that the studio is disappointed with the game's quality, noting that the project was not developed internally by Creative Assembly.

Collum explained that the project bypassed the studio's standard internal reviews and quality assurance processes. While Creative Assembly admits it failed to oversee the external development properly, the company acknowledges that it must take responsibility for the franchise's reputation and work to rectify the situation.

Regarding concerns about generative AI, Collum clarified that Creative Assembly does not use such technology for in-game assets. The studio is currently investigating the remaster's development, which involved the Warsaw-based developer Mataboo. A team of senior developers is now collaborating with Sega and the external studio to determine future steps.

The response from the community has been critical, with fans arguing that Creative Assembly remains responsible for the final product. Some players highlighted that the studio promoted the game via a livestream despite apparent lack of familiarity with the release, leading Collum to urge fans to direct their frustrations toward him personally.
