Following Electronic Arts' announcement on Oct. 21 regarding the closure of BioWare, a retrospective ranking of the studio's 23 titles has been published. This list encompasses the developer's thirty-year history, ranging from early mech-based projects to expansive RPG epics and mobile spin-offs.
The studio's evolution is evident in its diverse mechanics. While early efforts like Shattered Steel focused on mech combat, the developer later refined its signature party-based formula in titles like Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Other projects experimented with tactical turn-based systems, such as the Flash-based Dragon Age: Journeys, or cover-shooter mechanics seen in the mobile-exclusive Mass Effect Infiltrator.
Several titles faced significant accessibility challenges. Polygon notes that Mass Effect Galaxy and Mass Effect Infiltrator were removed from digital storefronts, rendering them largely unplayable today. Similarly, Anthem, a co-op title that featured flight mechanics, saw its servers shut down by EA in January 2026 after a difficult launch.
Despite these limitations, many games remain available. Titles like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age 2 are playable on modern platforms, with the latter praised for its decade-spanning narrative structure. Meanwhile, older experiments like MDK2 continue to be accessible on PC, highlighting the studio's range from sweeping epics to lighthearted, goofy adventures.
