Lead developer Paolo "Molleindustria" Pedercini has updated the open-world satire Future? No Thanks! to remove AI-generated voice lines. The developer is also offering refunds via Paypal or Venmo to players who feel betrayed by his previous use of the technology.

The update specifically removes two instances of text-to-speech voicework used for robot characters, including an automated toilet and a salon translator. Pedercini originally intended these voices as a spoof of generative AI, but he decided to remove them following negative reactions on social media and press coverage.

Pedercini maintains that the game is only 0.001% worse without the voices, though he personally believes they belonged in the project. Alongside these changes, he adjusted the game's economy to provide more money from gigs, which may help prevent players from becoming soft-locked during quests.

The developer expressed frustration regarding the backlash, noting that he previously disclosed his minor use of generative AI to festivals and events. He suggested that many developers on Steam use AI for coding assistance without public disclosure, as Valve's current policy does not mandate it for such tools.
