Following the sudden shutdown of developer BioWare by EA, Mass Effect-themed crossover items have reportedly been removed from Battlefield 6. These cosmetics, which included weapon charms, skins, and N7 tags, were initially spotted in the game's menus during the launch of Season Five earlier this month.

The items were expected to coincide with the annual N7 Day celebration on November 7th. Fans had speculated that the inclusion of these assets might have signaled upcoming news regarding the future of the Mass Effect franchise, but those expectations were dashed by the studio's closure and the cancellation of the next series entry.

Players observed that the content, including player card backgrounds and soldier patches, was scrubbed from the game shortly after the announcement. While the cosmetics appeared finished and ready for release, their removal follows a broader trend of EA utilizing live-service titles for crossovers, a strategy that previously drew mixed reactions during the Dead Space event.

EA stated that the closure of BioWare and the layoff of 400 workers were part of a strategy to align investment toward long-term growth. This restructuring occurs alongside significant corporate changes, including a $55bn leveraged buyout of EA involving the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, Affinity Partners, and Silver Lake.
