Amazon MGM is expanding its Fallout franchise with a new reality competition series titled Fallout Shelter: The Experiment. The show, which is slated for a Jan. 13, 2027 release on Prime Video, will consist of 10 episodes. The project involves collaboration between Bethesda Game Studios, Kilter Films, and Studio Lambert.
The competition is inspired by the 2015 management simulation game Fallout Shelter. Contestants will reside in a top-secret vault and face challenges designed to test their S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes: strength, perception, endurance, charisma, intelligence, agility, and luck. Beyond these physical and mental tests, the show will focus on social strategy, loyalty, and shifting power dynamics as participants compete for a cash prize.
Polygon notes that the premise of a reality show based on Fallout's satirical themes of corporate exploitation and nationalism mirrors the approach taken by Squid Game: The Challenge. The publication suggests that turning a dark comedy satire about the end of the world into a reality competition may fundamentally misunderstand the source material.
While the reality series arrives in 2027, the scripted Fallout television show remains in production. Following a renewal in 2025 and a second season that concluded in January 2026, filming for the third season commenced in July 2026. The scripted series is also expected to return in 2027.
