Valve has officially reintroduced HDR support for Remote Play on the Steam Deck OLED. This functionality was previously disabled in early October during the Big Art Mode update, a move likely linked to reported technical issues and the company's broader efforts to overhaul its HDR implementation.
The latest Steam Client preview update introduces a significant revamp for Remote Play. Users can now toggle between an automatic mode, which activates HDR only when relevant content is detected, and an always-on setting that increases brightness levels while viewing SDR content.
Beyond the handheld device, the update expands HDR capabilities across various platforms. Remote Play now supports HDR on Windows, Linux desktop environments via Pipewire, and macOS. Additionally, streaming to Android devices is supported provided the hardware is running Android 15 or newer.
