The Croatian developer Gamepires has announced staff layoffs, occurring eight months after the studio was acquired by Splash Damage Group. This decision follows a series of corporate acquisitions and workforce reductions within the parent organization.
In a statement posted on X on October 14, 2026, the studio described the cuts as a necessary measure to navigate challenging market conditions and ensure long-term sustainability. Neither Gamepires nor Splash Damage Group has disclosed the specific number of employees affected by these changes.
Splash Damage Group acknowledged the impact on their workforce, praising the contributions of the departing staff to the development of the survival game SCUM. The group previously noted that the team consisted of slightly under 150 people at the time of the acquisition.
Despite the personnel changes, the company confirmed that development of SCUM will continue. The remaining team will proceed with planned updates and hotfixes for the survival title, which officially exited early access with its 1.0 release on Steam in June 2025.
