Following years of speculation, reports indicate that Lucasfilm is actively seeking to revive the Star Wars Battlefront franchise. According to journalist Jeff Grubb, the persistent popularity of Star Wars Battlefront II has convinced Disney to pursue a third installment, with industry discussions regarding the project reportedly reopening in October 2026.

While Electronic Arts previously rejected a pitch for the title due to high licensing costs—which required 20% more sales to match the profitability of internal franchises like Battlefield—the landscape has shifted. Industry figures, including BULKHEAD CEO Joe Brammer, suggest a potential collaboration between DICE and Respawn Entertainment to leverage their respective expertise in large-scale destruction and gameplay mechanics.

The project's history remains complex, as DICE previously lost key creative talent, including director Dennis Bränvall and lead designer Christian Johannesé, following the cancellation of the original pitch. Furthermore, Bungie was reportedly approached as a candidate due to their experience with live-service titles, though internal restructuring and their focus on Marathon make this option appear complicated.

Although no official announcement has been made, Lucasfilm Games vice president Douglas Reilly confirmed that large-scale AAA projects remain a core part of their strategy. While the company maintains high standards for its partners, they are exploring various collaborations to bring ambitious Star Wars titles to market.
