On October 23, 2026, Nintendo pulled the SmileBASIC 4 application from its North American and European eShop storefronts. This action occurred one day after the software was utilized to facilitate a partial jailbreak of the Nintendo Switch 2 console.

Researcher Sammy Hajhamid, identified as pepsipu, developed the ns2jb method by exploiting security vulnerabilities within SmileBASIC 4. This tool leverages artificial intelligence to bypass system restrictions on the new hardware.

The exploit allows users to execute unofficial programs and modify existing titles, as demonstrated by the insertion of custom characters like Peter Griffin and Hatsune Miku into Mario Kart World. Currently, the method does not support piracy.

While the removal prevents new purchases, existing installations remain functional. Nintendo has not yet released a firmware update to address these vulnerabilities, which remain active on version 23.0.1 of the console.
