Key information
With the launch of World of Warcraft: Forever approaching in less than two weeks, Blizzard has reversed its decision regarding server infrastructure. The developer previously insisted on a "Realmless" model using massive regional servers, which initially limited PvP options to a single realm.
The initial single-server PvP structure faced intense criticism for enabling dominance by large streamer-led guilds. Specifically, the "Olympus" guild, led by Asmongold, reportedly gathered over 74,000 members during the beta, effectively marginalizing traditional players through aggressive in-game tactics and social media presence.
Blizzard had initially rejected requests for an RP-PvP server, with senior game designer Josh Greenfield citing concerns that such realms historically failed to maintain the population levels required for their economic model. The studio previously prioritized data-driven decisions over player nostalgia for past realms like Grobbulus.
Following widespread petitions, Blizzard confirmed an RP-PvP ruleset will be available at launch. This addition is critical because the game will not support character transfers between servers, making the initial choice permanent. Name reservations for these servers begin on October 27, 2026.
