Final Fantasy XIV PC players can now access the game after a recent outage caused by a widespread PHP vulnerability. The security flaw forced developers to take down the PC patching servers for maintenance, preventing desktop users from logging in.
While PC users faced connectivity issues, console players remained unaffected and could continue playing throughout the maintenance period. The disruption specifically impacted the ability to authenticate and patch the desktop version of the title.
During the downtime, the community organized a volunteer effort dubbed the PHP Watering Service. Players collaborated to visit the homes of those locked out of the game to water their crops, ensuring that valuable in-game plants did not wither while owners were unable to log in.
Although the patching servers are now fully operational and the immediate crisis has passed, the initiative highlights the community's proactive response to the technical limitations imposed by the server maintenance.
