Key information
Independent developer Cat Dev Games has officially launched a playable demo for their upcoming psychological horror puzzle title, The Main Menu, on Steam. The game centers on a protagonist trapped in a dark room, tasked with regaining control over their physical reality by manipulating a corrupted game interface.
Gameplay revolves around interacting with 2D buttons, settings, and hidden system elements within the main menu. These actions directly alter the 3D environment where the player is chained to a chair. Players must exploit menu vulnerabilities to solve puzzles while being watched by a mysterious entity lurking behind the screen.
The developer notes that while the project draws inspiration from meta-puzzle games like There Is No Game, it shifts toward a darker, more unsettling tone. The experience is designed to escalate tension, transforming mundane UI elements into sources of psychological pressure and complex mysteries that extend beyond the player's initial expectations.
The free demo is currently available for download. Additionally, the title is scheduled to participate in the Steam Scream V event, which runs from October 26 to November 2.
