Arrowhead Game Studios currently has no plans for a Helldivers 3. Johan Pilestedt, the studio's chief creative officer, stated that a sequel would only be considered if it were distinct enough to exist alongside Helldivers 2 or if the current game's player count dropped significantly.
The studio is prioritizing the ongoing development of Helldivers 2, with 95% of its 150-person staff focused on the title. A small team is currently prototyping an unannounced project, though Pilestedt emphasized that the studio aims to grow sustainably rather than doubling in size immediately after a success.
Pilestedt views Helldivers 2 as a long-term community space rather than a product requiring a sequel. He argued that sequels often force players to restart, whereas a continuous live service model allows the game to function as a lifelong hobby. He noted that the community itself acts as the engine for the game's longevity.
While Helldivers 2 maintains a Steam live player count of 47,097, Pilestedt believes that the biggest competitor to a potential third installment would be the second game itself. Consequently, the studio remains committed to improving the current title rather than abandoning its momentum.
