Rockstar Games maintains a distinct financial position compared to other industry developers. According to former open-world designer Jérémy Hartvick, the studio never faced internal discussions regarding staff cuts due to economic pressures during his tenure.
The company's robust financial health is largely attributed to the sustained success of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. These titles continue to appear on best-seller lists, while GTA Online and Red Dead Online provide consistent revenue streams through microtransactions.
Despite this stability, Hartvick left Rockstar North in 2020 due to the immense workload. He noted that the prospect of committing several more years to GTA 6 after finishing Red Dead Redemption 2 influenced his decision to move closer to his family.
Financial resources do not exempt the company from all labor issues. Rockstar is currently involved in a legal dispute regarding employees dismissed last year, with proceedings scheduled to continue until November 18.
