On October 21, Microsoft announced that its Advanced Shader Delivery technology now supports a broader range of Windows 11 devices, including those equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX series GPUs. This expansion follows previous support for AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm hardware, with NVIDIA integrating the functionality into the GeForce Game Ready Driver 621.01.
The technology addresses performance issues caused by shader compilation, which often forces players to wait during initial game launches. By utilizing a State Object Database (SODB) and pre-compiled shader databases (PSDB), the system allows users to download pre-compiled shaders tailored to their hardware configuration. This process significantly reduces wait times, with Microsoft reporting up to 85% faster launch times for Avowed and a 95% reduction for Forza Horizon 6.
Currently, the feature is available for titles on the Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app, with plans to expand to Steam and the Epic Games Store soon. Developers are being provided with tools to integrate SODB collection into their workflows, including support in Unreal Engine 5.8.4 and upcoming integration for Unity in 2027.
The system also automatically manages shader cache updates when driver changes are detected. While the technology is being adopted by new titles like NBA 2K27 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Microsoft notes that not all games are currently compatible, such as the Steam version of Monster Hunter Wilds.
