Capcom recently disclosed a significant data breach impacting over 11.7 million Capcom ID accounts. These accounts are essential for managing online services and multiplayer functionality across various titles, including Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter 6.

The publisher identified that an unauthorized third party accessed customer information on October 19. While the company stated that original user-set passwords remain uncompromised, it confirmed that 196 accounts experienced unauthorized password changes. These specific passwords have since been reset by the firm.

Investigations revealed that 19 of the compromised accounts had their e-Capcom store pages accessed. Exposed data included names, addresses, telephone numbers, birth dates, and purchase histories. However, Capcom confirmed that credit card information was not affected by this security incident.

Capcom has implemented emergency measures to address the attack method and maintains that all services remain operational. The company is currently contacting affected individuals and has established dedicated support channels. This follows a previous 2020 ransomware attack that impacted 16,415 people.
