Key information
The collaborative initiative Pokemon feat. Hatsune Miku Project VOLTAGE High↑ officially released a new song titled 1996 along with its accompanying music video on October 23, 2026. This track follows the release of the song LEGENDS, which debuted on October 22.
The music video features animation depicting two children playing the original Pokemon Red and Green games. According to ryo (supercell), the inspiration for the composition came from observing two children who loved the franchise, noting how they would compete to see who could name more Pokemon.
Reflecting on the creative process, ryo expressed that watching the children made him realize their current passion would eventually become a cherished memory. He described the song as a narrative about people who have grown into adulthood, hoping listeners might recall their own childhood friends while hearing the track.
The project is a joint effort between Pokemon and Crypton Future Media. Official copyright information for the release is attributed to 2026 Pokemon and 1995-2026 Nintendo, Creatures Inc., and GAME FREAK inc.
