Recent rumors suggest the upcoming Xbox console, codenamed Project Helix, could launch in late 2028 with a price tag ranging from 1200 to 1800 dollars. Some reports even indicate the cost could reach near 2000 dollars.
Mike Ybarra, a former leader at Xbox, expressed skepticism regarding these high price points. He emphasized that consoles are designed for a mass audience and suggested that a more accessible launch price, ideally between 399 and 499 dollars, is necessary for market success.
Ybarra argued that a console priced at the rumored levels would likely see virtually zero sales compared to other market alternatives. He believes the industry should remain focused on the PS5 Pro and the current Xbox Series X until production costs decrease.
According to the former executive, current hardware is sufficient for 99% of users, noting that there is currently no consumer demand for a more powerful machine.
