Microsoft is rolling out a new version of the Microsoft Photos app for Windows 11 starting October 26. The update will be distributed gradually to users through mid-December.

The update removes the requirement to purchase the 120 yen HEVC video extension to view HEIC files. Users will now be able to open photos captured on iPhones and iPads in their native format without additional extensions.

The new version integrates photos from PC, OneDrive, and iCloud into a single gallery. It also introduces AI-powered repair tools to remove unwanted objects and a Relight feature that allows users to add up to three adjustable light sources to images.

Performance improvements are included, with Microsoft reporting a 15% increase in startup speed for standard photos and up to 30% for HEIC files. Additionally, users can now edit HEIC and WebP images while maintaining their original file formats.
