The Pokemon feat. Hatsune Miku Project VOLTAGE High↑ initiative released a new music video titled 1996 on October 23. Produced by ryo of supercell, the track serves as a commemorative piece for the franchise's 30th anniversary, focusing on the year 1996.

The music video features iconic creatures from the original Pocket Monsters Red and Green games, including Pikachu, Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise, and Butterfree. The visual narrative depicts the transition of a child growing into adulthood, reflecting the series' history since its initial February 27, 1996 release.

Creator ryo noted that the song was inspired by his own children and their shared passion for the franchise. He expressed a desire for listeners to recall their own childhood friendships when hearing the track. This release follows the debut of another ryo-produced song, LEGENDS, which was published on October 22.

The project utilizes samples from the game series' background music and sound effects. Fans can access the song via streaming and digital download platforms starting October 24.
