Key information
The largest expansion for Once Human, titled Islas del Abismo, officially launched on October 22 for PlayStation 5. This update shifts the survival experience from land to five new oceanic regions, introducing a living sea entity known as The Sunken Lord that actively reacts to player presence.
Players begin with a basic wooden raft but gain the freedom to customize their vessels into mobile maritime fortresses. These ships serve as essential bases, workshops, and artillery platforms. Players can design anything from pirate ships to industrial rigs, coordinating with friends in fleets to tackle regional threats like suffocating mists and fire-raining skies.
The expansion introduces a dual progression cycle where land-based resources improve naval technology, while deep-sea exploration yields materials to upgrade terrestrial gear. Players can explore four oceanic regions in any order, engaging in underwater exploration of sunken ruins and deep-water hunts to gather rare resources.
The PlayStation 5 version utilizes specific hardware features to enhance immersion. DualSense haptic feedback simulates the Sunken Lord's heartbeat and environmental impacts, while adaptive triggers provide resistance for naval cannons. Additionally, the console's SSD enables seamless transitions between land, sea, and underwater exploration.
