Valve composer Mike Morasky has publicly referenced a project known as HLX during a recent Q&A session at GameSoundCon. While the developer has not officially announced a new title, Morasky's comments suggest the existence of this internal project, which has long been a subject of speculation among dataminers and fans.
During a discussion regarding the Source 2 engine, Morasky compared the audio systems of different projects, stating that Deadlock and HLX each utilize their own versions of HDR. This remark appears to be an accidental disclosure, as the company has not provided official details regarding the development of HLX.
This instance marks the third time Morasky has mentioned the project. Previous occurrences include a Reddit interview where he corrected himself after naming the project, and a separate occasion where he claimed to be working on two Half-Life titles despite only being credited for Half-Life: Alyx.
HLX is widely speculated to be a sequel to Half-Life 2: Episode Two. Unlike the VR-focused Half-Life: Alyx, reports suggest HLX is not a virtual reality game and has reportedly been in a playable state from start to finish for some time.
