Microsoft announced on 21 October 2026 that Xbox Insiders can now purchase cloud playtime packs, allowing access to cloud gaming without a Game Pass subscription. These packs are currently offered at introductory prices of $3.99 for 10 hours, $7.99 for 25 hours, and $11.99 for 50 hours, with a broader rollout scheduled for November.

These playtime packs provide an ad-free experience with high-quality streaming and shorter wait times. Purchased hours do not expire and carry over until used. However, these packs do not include access to the Game Pass library; users must own a cloud-playable game or utilize a supported free-to-play title to stream.

Starting in November, Microsoft will also introduce monthly hour caps for existing Game Pass cloud streaming subscribers. Limits will be set at 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 hours for Premium, and 5 hours for Essential tiers. The company estimates these new restrictions will impact approximately 4% of its current subscriber base.

The initiative marks a shift from unlimited streaming to a metered model for subscribers while simultaneously opening cloud access to non-subscribers. While the 50-hour pack is priced at $11.99, Microsoft notes that these costs are introductory and subject to change based on market, device, and account eligibility.
