Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 introduces a new extraction mode called DMZ, launching globally on October 23 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and Battle.net. Players deploy into the vast map of Hazine to collect resources and extract before being defeated by enemy squads.
Success in DMZ relies on managing operators, who gain experience and strength through survival. Operators possess unique dog tags that track their progress and can be stolen by enemies upon defeat. If an operator is killed, they become MIA and require a DMZ cash payment at the Forward Operating Base to be rescued.
Operators can be customized using three distinct trait trees: Warfighter, Scout, and Survivor. Players earn trait points by leveling up through DMZ XP, allowing them to unlock up to 18 out of 66 available traits. These traits provide tactical advantages, such as self-revive capabilities or improved looting efficiency, though they also increase the cost of rescuing an operator if they fall in battle.
Long-term progression is achieved through the Prestige system. By meeting specific equipment and cash requirements, players can reset their trait points to earn a permanent Prestige trait for that specific operator. This allows for the creation of highly specialized characters, though players must carefully manage their risks as more experienced operators become increasingly expensive to recover.
