A trailer for the unreleased project Mass Effect: Universe has surfaced online following the closure of developer BioWare. According to reports from Bloomberg and IGN, the footage is an official asset created by the development team shortly before the studio was shuttered by EA.
The project was set hundreds of years after the conclusion of the Reaper war in Mass Effect 3. Players would have assumed the role of a military operative tasked with preventing crises in a narrative framed as a spy thriller.
The leaked footage showcased iconic series elements, including Liara T'Soni, space travel via relays, and the return of romance options and moral alignment systems. It also featured appearances by the Geth and species from the Andromeda galaxy.
BioWare closed on the 21st, resulting in the cancellation of this project and the layoff of approximately 50 staff members. While the studio is defunct, Amazon Prime Video continues production on the Mass Effect TV series as originally planned.
