Roblox has officially announced a new "Platform-integrated chat" system, requiring developers to transition away from custom chat implementations. This update, detailed on the Roblox Developer Forum on October 22, mandates that all in-game communication must utilize the TextChatService (TCS).

Under the new requirements, developers will no longer be able to access or store chat content directly via scripts. Instead, they must adopt standard features like TextChannelWindow for chat displays and TextChatCommand for custom chat-based commands. While customization of layout, size, and color remains permitted, the underlying delivery and display mechanisms will be managed by the platform.

The platform is also reinforcing restrictions on non-TCS communication methods. Systems like bulletin boards or trading interfaces that bypass TCS for real-time interaction are prohibited. Furthermore, any user-input features not intended for conversation must implement a minimum one-minute delay between updates to prevent misuse, with potential penalties including game suspension or removal for non-compliance.

Developers are encouraged to begin testing the new system immediately. While the transition will be automatically enabled for all games in February 2027 with an opt-out option, full mandatory compliance is scheduled for May 2027. At that time, legacy APIs will be deprecated, though games already utilizing standard, uncustomized chat features will require no further action.
