Developer Part Time Monkey released the 2D platformer Jono on Steam on October 5. The game features a unique design where only one person can play at a time globally. After the developer shared play data on Reddit on October 23, the title gained renewed attention for its cooperative structure.
In Jono, players aim to clear a massive number of stages. Each session lasts until one minute passes or the player fails five times, at which point control shifts to the next person in line. While waiting, participants can use chat and stamp functions to socialize or praise others. Failed attempts leave behind gravestones, providing visual warnings for subsequent players.
The game includes a stage editor and a MEAT GRINDER mode for user-created levels. According to Part Time Monkey, some submitted stages are extremely difficult, with one requiring over 1200 attempts to clear before submission. Some levels in the MEAT GRINDER mode have seen thousands of failures, often requiring hours to complete.
Part Time Monkey reported that over 100 players have logged more than 10 hours, with six individuals playing for over 100 hours. While the game requires patience, the developer noted that players can simply watch without joining the queue. A milestone is expected to be reached soon, though the developer has kept the outcome a secret.
