Key information
Epic Games has unveiled the 2026 Epic AI MegaJam, a competition challenging teams of up to five participants to develop games using Unreal Engine or UEFN. Following a theme reveal on November 11, entrants have from November 12 to 15 to complete their projects.
The event features a total prize pool of $65,000. Top honors in categories such as Best Overall and Best Student Project offer $7,500 each, while standout submissions may qualify for Development Continuation Grants reaching $50,000 to support ongoing production.
Although initial FAQ documentation suggested AI usage was mandatory, Epic Games later clarified this was an error, confirming that participants may utilize AI tools at their own discretion. The promotional artwork includes a six-fingered hand, seemingly referencing common AI generation artifacts.
Public reception has been largely critical, with observers noting that game jams have historically functioned without AI assistance since 2002. Critics have expressed dissatisfaction regarding the promotion of AI-generated content, contrasting this with the broader industry and fan sentiment, which remains predominantly negative toward such tools.
