Key information
Intel has officially initiated the equipment installation phase at its Fab 62 facility, located on the Ocotillo campus in Chandler, Arizona. Departing from its usual policy of maintaining ambiguity regarding operational timelines, the company confirmed that construction and tool setup are currently in progress. Intel anticipates that the facility will reach operational status by the end of 2028.
While Intel has not explicitly confirmed the specific process nodes for Fab 62, the facility possesses the potential to support 18A, 18A-P, and 14A technologies. This new site follows the successful ramp-up of the adjacent Fab 52, which currently utilizes the 18A process to manufacture Clearwater Forest server CPUs and Panther Lake processors.
Beyond the Arizona expansion, Intel is advancing infrastructure projects elsewhere, including the installation of the first major structural truss at its New Albany, Ohio site. Additionally, the company has broken ground on a new photomask manufacturing plant in Santa Clara, California, further diversifying its domestic operational footprint across various states.
Reports from CNBC, as cited by TrendForce, suggest that Intel may be engaged in discussions with SK hynix regarding the potential lease of space within the unfinished Ohio facility for memory chip production. However, neither organization has officially verified these claims, leaving the status of such a partnership unconfirmed.
