Speculation regarding a potential third mainline Half-Life game has resurfaced following a public slip-up by a Valve employee. During a panel at GameSoundCon in Burbank, California, composer Mike Morasky referenced a project codenamed HLX while discussing the Source 2 audio engine.

Video footage from the event shows Morasky mentioning HLX alongside the game Deadlock when discussing HDR versions. Following the comment, panelist David Feise appeared to whisper to Morasky, later remarking at the end of the session that the composer had only said the codename once.

The HLX codename has been linked to a rumored Half-Life 3 project for years, with dataminers previously identifying references to it within Source 2 engine updates. Reports suggest the title is a non-VR experience, and journalist Tyler McVicker claimed in 2025 that the game is currently playable from end to end.

This is not the first time Morasky has been associated with such mentions. Reddit users previously highlighted instances where the composer allegedly referenced HLX or multiple Half-Life projects, though Valve has not officially confirmed the development of a new mainline entry in the series.
