Key information
Online speculation regarding a potential new Half-Life title has intensified following comments made by Valve sound designer Mike Morasky at the Game Sound Con event. During a discussion about high dynamic range audio systems, Morasky referenced a project identified as HLX.
Morasky noted that the upcoming game Deadlock utilizes a specific version of HDR audio, as does the HLX project. Immediately following this mention, a fellow Valve developer remarked, "Nice work," which some observers interpreted as a reaction to Morasky potentially disclosing unannounced information.
The term HLX has previously appeared in datamining efforts, leading some fans to theorize that it represents a new entry in the Half-Life series, possibly the long-rumored Half-Life 3. Morasky is a veteran at the company, having contributed to titles such as Half-Life: Alyx and Portal 2.
While excitement persists, it remains an annual tradition for fans to find potential evidence of a new game, often without an official announcement. Valve last released a title in the franchise with 2020's Half-Life: Alyx, which earned GameSpot's Game of the Year award.
