Despite the closure of BioWare, the Mass Effect television adaptation remains in active development at Amazon MGM Studios. Internal sources at Prime Video confirmed that the project is moving forward, with all creative professionals previously attached to the series still involved.
As of August 2025, Doug Jung serves as the showrunner, while Daniel Casey is handling the script. The production team features Karim Zreik, Mike Gamble from BioWare, and former Marvel Studios executive Ari Arad.
The series has been officially in development since 2024, following initial rumors that emerged in 2021. The narrative will not retell Commander Shepard’s origin story, opting instead to take place after the original game trilogy.
Daniel Casey addressed reports in April of this year, denying claims that Prime Video intended to rewrite the script to broaden its appeal to non-gamers. The studio reportedly aims to replicate the success of its Fallout adaptation.
