Electronic Arts has officially confirmed plans to continue the Battlefield franchise. This announcement arrived alongside news of significant corporate changes, including the closure of BioWare, the cancellation of various projects, and the layoff of approximately 400 employees.

According to a communication from David Tinson and Cam Weber, the company intends to move forward with the series. While specific details remain scarce, reports from Insider Gaming suggest the project is currently in the early stages of development.

The previous entry, Battlefield 6, launched in October 2025 and became the fastest-selling title in the franchise, moving 7 million units in three days. Despite this initial success, the game experienced a decline of over 90% of its user base by March 2026. Consequently, Electronic Arts reduced staff at DICE, Criterion Games, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios.

Industry speculation indicates that the new installment may not arrive until late 2028 at the earliest. Furthermore, the company is managing these cost-cutting measures following a 55 billion dollar acquisition by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, which included 18 billion dollars in debt.
