A British retiree from Woking, England, recently auctioned a forgotten Pokémon card collection for £1.56 million, approximately $2 million. The sale, conducted at Ewbank’s Auctions, is described by the auction house as the most valuable trading card auction in the United Kingdom to date.

The collector began acquiring these items in the late 1990s, viewing them as a potential investment. He purchased various sets on eBay, including one specific set acquired for £300 that ultimately sold for £75,000. The collection remained untouched in his attic for years.

Ewbank’s staff expressed surprise at the pristine state of the items. James Spooner, the head of trading cards, noted the collection was in mint condition. Andrew Ewbank highlighted that the set was extensive and complete, containing nearly every rarity sought by enthusiasts.

A highlight of the auction was the Legendary Collection Complete Master Set, which achieved a price of £100,000. This 2002 release is considered iconic, featuring a comprehensive assembly of holographic and promotional cards. The sale underscores the continued growth of the Pokémon trading card market.
