Key information
Electronic Arts has officially paused development on a mobile-focused multiplayer Sims title, previously known as Project Rene and later Project Lotus. The company decided to pivot after observing that players remain highly engaged with The Sims 4, leading to a shift in strategic priorities for the franchise.
The publisher is now directing its attention toward an internal project codenamed Project Evergreen. While official details remain scarce, reports suggest this title is not The Sims 5, but rather a successor often described as a The Sims 4 2.0 experience. This new direction aims to evolve the series beyond the current iteration.
According to reports cited by Sims Community, the project is targeting a gold status by September 2027, with a potential release in the autumn of 2027. The game is planned for PC and is expected to feature optimization for portable hardware like the Steam Deck. Further updates may emerge during The Game Awards or early 2027.
This development follows earlier hints from the team regarding a new single-player game for PC and consoles. With The Sims 4 having launched in 2014, the transition to a new title represents a significant step for the series, potentially moving away from the accumulated content of the previous decade.
