Key information
Following the closure of BioWare, author Derek Künsken has disclosed his involvement in the development of the now-canceled Mass Effect 5. Künsken, known for his novel The Quantum Magician, spent five years contributing to the project before its termination.
Künsken collaborated with creative director Parrish Ley and narrative director Mary DeMarle to develop the title. He worked alongside Catherynne Valente, author of Mass Effect Andromeda: Annihilation, to pitch concepts regarding the game's lore, characters, and overarching narrative elements.
Both writers expressed pride in their work, with Valente describing the project as a great game. The team reportedly aimed to craft a narrative experience comparable to the original trilogy, though the cancellation means the title will not be released.
While the writers are currently restricted from sharing specific details, they hope to disclose more information in the future. Despite the game's cancellation, a television adaptation based on the franchise remains in development.
